Gloom is a two-dimensional black and white roguelike. It has references to the work of H. P. Lovecraft. The protagonist lies in a coma and tries to get out of it by traveling through dreams. Along the way, he meets strange characters. You can chat with them to get a better understanding of the lore. Most of the time, the hero fights the creatures of nightmares. The plot is not immediately revealed. You need to collect it bit by bit on your own, listening to other people's monologues and reading descriptions. The story has 3 endings.

Gloom uses a perma-death system, where the hero starts over after death. Not all progress is lost here. For killing the ringleaders, coins are given. They can be used in the next run by exchanging them for a useful item at the very beginning. Battles with monsters take place in real time. All information about the monsters encountered and the things found is stored in the local encyclopedia - the Necronomicon.
