Rooten crosses adventure with horror and walking simulator. Unlike many other indie horror games, it uses a third-person rather than a first-person view. The hero moves through three-dimensional space, but all objects in it are flat. Because of this, the visual style of the project resembles a cardboard diorama. The graphics here are cartoonish. It combines 3D and 2D. The design is similar to Flash games from the early 2000s. In the indie title, there is a day/night cycle. There is also a small open world, densely packed with different events. The user is free to roam the gloomy Forest and enter the only house available to visit. Ruten tells the story of the adventures of a man who has been taken by helicopter to a research station somewhere in the middle of nowhere. He needed to visit the place on behalf of his superiors to investigate strange mushrooms and write reports. However, there the protagonist discovered that no one came out to meet him. Since the rotorcraft will return only in a week, it needs to hold out for all 7 days. As a result, the researcher begins to wander through the forest all alone and feels the presence of some mysterious entity that is very interested in him for some mysterious reason.
