Rekoil is a multiplayer first-person shooter about infantry battles without the use of all kinds of armored vehicles. Battles take place on open, large maps, developed specifically for this project, without borrowing from other, more famous franchises. The core of the Unreal Engine 3 engine is used, which guarantees a high-quality level of graphics and effects of sun flares, explosions, and so on.

There are only two sides to the conflict: the Minutemen and the evil corporation Darkwater Inc. It has seized power in all spheres of ordinary people's lives and uses them to create comfortable conditions for its elite. That is why the Minutemen were created to resist the power of totalitarian power. The world of the game "Recoil" is gripped by a pandemic of a previously unknown disease, and is gradually dying due to the decline in the number of human civilization. This is another reason for the military conflict – an attempt to achieve decent health care.

Characters are divided into classes with different objectives on the battlefield:

• Assault – uses submachine guns and automatic rifles to conduct offensives against enemy positions.
• Scout – Carries submachine guns and mini-submachine guns for maximum maneuverability.
• Shotgunner is a specialist in shotguns, ideal for short-range collisions.
• Heavy – loves large barrels with a huge magazine. It has a low movement speed due to the weight of the machine gun. Suitable for indirect fire to suppress the activity of enemy soldiers.
• Sniper – skillfully wields rifles with telescopic sights. Gains a huge advantage over long distances.
• Missile Carrier – controlled by RPG, used to eliminate entire squads entrenched in a small area of the map.

All of them have several variants of primary weapons, and a set of secondary grenades, pistols, and knives is standard for each character.
