POLYBIUS was inspired by a fictional game and named after it. According to urban legend, in the 80s in the United States, there was a "cursed" title of the same name. It caused users to become addicted and had a negative impact on their psyche. Soon, the U.S. government, which conducted the psychological experiment, removed these dangerous machines. This creepypasta formed the basis of this indie project.

The product stands out for its minimalistic, retro-styled graphics. In the title, everything is constantly flickering and moving, and the color palette is constantly changing. Real psychedelia is happening on the screen. However, because of this, the project will not be suitable for those who have epilepsy.

POLYBIUS is a side-scrolling shooter with a rear view. The ship rushes through tunnel-like levels, dodging obstacles and shooting enemies. You can control it using a keyboard and mouse, a gamepad, a VR device with motion controllers. You can collect various bonuses. They enhance weapons, provide protection, increase speed, and even help slow down time. The game consists of 50 levels. The title is beginner-friendly. There are no bosses here. There is also no need to repeat previously seen locations. Challenge Lovers Can Increase the Difficulty.

There are a total of 3 modes in the game:

• Normal – the most user-friendly gameplay, designed for most users;
• Pure – here you are offered to test your endurance and skill: the user starts from the very beginning and tries to go as far as possible;
• Endurance – the user is deprived of infinite sequels and bonus items, and in return is given a fixed number of lives.
