The Brotherhood of the Black Hats dominates the territory of steampunk and the world created by the developers. Machinarium is a town with no place for malfunctioning robots, so Josef is thrown into a junkyard, from where he must get out and return to the city to secretly steal Bertha. The entire Black Hat clan is a kind of terrorist group that has taken over the city and the governor. The protagonist must not only save the city, but also steal Bertha, the Governor, deal with the management of the Black Hats, and put the entire existence of the gloomy and dark Machinarium on the line.

As in typical platformers, the protagonist will be able to jump, run in different directions, but still head in the direction indicated by the location and the linearity of the plot. On his way, you will meet different opponents, which can only be skipped. The entire plot of the game is built on puzzles, of which there are more than enough in the project. Since the entire world of robots consists of mechanisms, be prepared for an abundance of gears and arrows! There will be no boring and long dialogues in the game.
