KUNAI is a side-scrolling metroidvania. The indie project has two-dimensional pixel art graphics. The protagonist is drawn in blue, his enemies are in red, and the entire environment looks monochrome. The main character has a computer screen instead of a head. At KUNAI, we control a ninja tablet named Tabby. The hero lives in a world that has been taken over by machines. A robot with the soul of an ancient warrior tries to save the remnants of humanity from the artificial intelligence of Lemonkus and his army of mechanical minions. His trusty katana and kunai will help him in this matter. He will also acquire shurikens and machine guns. Weapons can be upgraded for collected coins, and all guns and blades have alternative ways of using them. For example: a sword allows you to deflect bullets, and daggers with ropes tied to them can be used instead of a grappling hook. The entire gameplay is built around their use.

The samurai gradually gains new abilities. They make it possible to get to new places and overcome previously impregnable obstacles, as well as facilitate the gameplay. The hero will learn how to use the map (at first, you will have to move between locations from memory), will be able to double jump, etc. P. This character can also be upgraded. Chests are scattered throughout the levels, in which you find hearts. Collecting enough of these items will increase your maximum health. In addition, the appearance of the robot can be slightly changed thanks to the hats found. The developers did not bring teleportation between different zones. Therefore, after defeating a boss or finding a secret, you will have to return from one end of the open world to the other for a long time, while fighting constantly respawning enemies.
