Haze Plunges you into the dark depths of a dystopian future. The protagonist, Shane Carpenter, once a loyal soldier of Mantel, engages in a dramatic battle with the resistance group The Promise Hand. The action takes place in the troubled region of Boa in South America, where Mantel's forces clash with rebels, who bear the burden of heavy accusations. Over the course of the story, Shane learns the terrible truth about Nectar - he distorts his perception, hiding the monstrous deeds committed by Mantel and turning the rebels into vicious monsters. It turns out that the Hand of Promise is not a gang of terrorists, but a peaceful community stubbornly resisting Mantel's tyranny.

A striking dichotomy defines the gameplay, with Mantel's soldiers relying on Nectar's upgrades in battle, while the rebels using guerrilla tactics and environmental resources. The effect of nectar on gameplay is obvious: it reduces recoil, increases zoom capabilities, and masks the ghost of death. However, it also has negative consequences: hallucinations, loss of control over the situation and the danger of overdose. Cunning Rebels can exploit Mantel's addiction to their own ends, using overdose-inducing weapons or hacking into Nectar injectors.
