Gish is a two-dimensional indie arcade adventure built on the classic principles of side-scrolling. The story tells about two lovers – a girl named Bree and a strange monster named Gish, who looks like a small ball of tar. In front of the protagonist's eyes, his beloved is kidnapped and dragged into the depths of the sewers. From this moment on, the user must confront dangers, destroy enemies and move deeper into the dungeon to save his girlfriend.

The gameplay mechanics are simple - to complete the level, the gamer can change the physical state of Gish:

• "sticky" is designed to grab objects and interact with special surfaces;
• "slippery" helps to pass narrow openings and crevices;
• "Hard" is needed for destroying fragile objects, fighting in battles, and underwater movements.

To overcome unusual obstacles, any available states can be combined. The arcade features five enemies and six bosses, each requiring a different fighting style. To complete the story, the gamer is given 100 lives, after which Gish will finally die and the progress received earlier will be completely deleted. Gish offers head-to-head multiplayer, where two people control multiple characters using a common keyboard.
