Dead Matter is a first-person action-adventure shooter in which the player is invited to try their hand at confronting the walking dead who have flooded the planet as a result of the zombie apocalypse. Mechanics taken from survival simulators require constant attention and concentration from the player, because any enemy can be the last, and many useful resources collected during the exploration of the open world will be lost. Extensive inventory, consisting of a backpack, pouches, pockets and the like, must be filled only with the most necessary, because space is limited, and it is not possible to carry everything at once.

The project, developed by an indie studio consisting of 6 programmers, includes both single-player and multiplayer modes, as well as cooperative using a local network to explore the world with only your own acquaintance or friend, without other people. Shared servers operating on the Internet support the simultaneous presence of a couple of dozen gamers on the server, which makes the main danger to crowds of zombies, and other survivors trying to take away your things, food, first aid kits and weapons.

Due to the implemented system of changing the time of day, users need to take care of finding a safe shelter, because at night predatory animals are activated, and zombies can sneak up as unexpectedly as possible, right from the dense darkness. To maintain the virtual protégé in proper condition, it is important for the player to have a supply of drinking water and edible meat or canned food, as well as a set of medicines.
